Bit late sorry! We have had a busy start to the term, and it doesn't look like it will let up any time soon!
In conjunction with core learning areas we will also be continuing with our 'Passion Projects'. Students will be thinking about about the big question - 'Where to next'? More to come :-) Term 1 is nearly over, hasn't it flown by! Please feel free to have a look over the holidays. I am hoping to update so that we are ready to go in Term 2. Enjoy your break from routines see you next term! Room 6's Blog - Term 1 2015This term we will be focusing on our school values.
Pārāwai School Values are a RECIPE for Success! Respect, Emotional Intelligence, Cooperation, Integrity, Perseverance, Excellence. In preparation for our asTTle writing test (Monday week 9), we have been learning to write descriptions, and in particular describing places or settings. Some very good discussion came from really looking beyond the obvious. Click on the power point presentation we used for our writing task this week. you are able to view each of the three pages by changing the number (1-3) in the box. Hopefully we can share the published pieces in week 9, all going well :-), other wise Week 1 term 2.
We have also been frantically working on completing the last of our projects. By now some of you will have these wonderful creations in your homes or safely delivered to their intended recipient. It has been a wonderful experience watching the children organise their materials, agonise over design, solve technical hiccups and persevere with some very complicated projects. I am, as you must be, very proud of their efforts. Thank you to all those parents who were able to attend Parent / Teacher interviews on Thursday 19th March. I really appreciated the way you all worked around the only one day that I had available for interviews.
Room 6 students really enjoyed sharing their learning with you. We have been learning a little trick to help us remember our 9x table. The year 5 students are teaching the year 4 students how to use finger patterns to remember the 9x table. Check out the links below for helpful hints on learning times tables.
9x table 6, 7, 8, 9, & 10x tables This week we have been writing HAIKU poetry. We will be sharing some of these with you as soon as Mrs. Hodgson works out how to give all our parents access to read and comment on them, lol. SUMMER

Finally!!! more photos to come This week we have some fantastic holiday writing for you to read. Click on the highlighted stories below. We started working on our 'Passion Projects' last Friday. 'Passion Projects are about choosing something you are really passionate about and using that passion to motivate the children in their learning.
The children are asking themselves - What am I passionate about? How can I show what I am passionate about to others? What do I need to do to achieve this goal? And who will it benefit? So far children have been thinking about and planning - What it is they want to do?, How they can share that passion and acquired knowledge with others? And what they will need? Who will benefit from this project was the first thing they had to decide on and believe me there are going to be some very impressed people out there. Watch this space! |
